Conesus Lake is
the most westerly of the Finger Lakes. It is located in Livingston
County, 2 miles west of Livonia, about 8 miles east of Geneseo
and approximately 25 miles south of Rochester. The length
is 8 miles with a maximum width of 1 mile and maximum depth
of 66 feet.
The four townships
that make up Conesus Lake are Livonia and Conesus on the east
side and Geneseo and Groveland on the west side.
Conesus Lake was
one of the first lakes in New York State to have a perimeter
sewer, which was in 1972 with 26 pumping stations and a processing
treatment plant at the north end. Currently there is public
water that surrounds the lake. Conesus is also a source of
drinking water for nearby towns and villages. Conesus Lake
has over 1000 homes around the lake which all enjoy the summer
activities of boating, skiing, and great fishing. Walleye,
Northern Pike, Perch and Bass are some of the fantastic sport
fish. Winter activities also include ice fishing, ice skating,
and ice boating. Normally the lake does completely freeze
over.
On Conesus Lake
there are two parks, one in Livonia - Vitale Park at Sand
Point and the other in Geneseo at Long Point. Both have beautiful
picnic areas. The lake also has a public boat launch on East
Lake Road just south of Mc Pherson Point and the general store.
There are two boat
marinas on East Lake Road, Mark's Leasure Time Marina and
Smith Boys Jansen Marina of Conesus Lake. Southern Shores
Campground is on the east side in the Town of Conesus. Also
on the south end of East Lake Road is the Conesus Inn (well
known for its truman cut of prime rib). There's even a grass
strip airport off West Lake Road at the north end.
