Conesus is located
at the Southeast section of Conesus Lake and also borders
the west side of Hemlock Lake. Route 15 is the main highway
running thru Conesus. The town of Conesus was settled in the
late 1700's with farming and milling the main businesses.
The population for the town in the 2000 census was 2353. Today
there are over 200 lakefront homes on Conesus Lake and no
homes on Hemlock Lake.
On Hemlock Lake
there is a large stand of ancient growth trees that has been
discovered by the city of Rochester who was the owner of the
lake. Also overlooking the lake is the O-Neh-Da Vineyard.
Wine from their own grapes have been made there for over 100
years. The vineyard was started in 1872 by Bishop McQuaid,
and the Catholic Church used the wine for their altar wine.
A Mission was also built there for their new priest and that
beautiful building still stands there today.
The Town
of Conesus supports an 18 hole beautiful rolling golf
course, a newer firehouse built about the year 2000, and also
Ricky Greene Memorial Park which is always full of youngsters
keeping busy with baseball, skateboarding, etc.
