Groveland is located
between Geneseo and Dansville. Much of the community is agricultural.
Groveland borders Conesus Lake on the southwest side and has
about 160 homes on the water. Rochester is about 35 miles
to the north and a short commute via the I-390 expressway.
The 2000 census
reports a population of 3,853. Route 36 which runs thru Groveland
is also the location of the Groveland Correctional Facility
which houses about 1,500 residents, just about half of the
population.
There is a memorial
monument at the Ambuscade Park on David Gray Hill Road, which
is off Barber Hill Road, where Revolutionary Lt. Thomas Boyd
and Sgt. Michael Parker were ambushed and killed by the Indians
and British troops while on a scouting mission. Boyd and Parker
were soldiers under General Sullivan.
